    Montrose-La Crescenta

    La Crescenta-Montrose is a census-designated place (CDP) and an unincorporated area in Los Angeles County, California, encompassing those parts of the Crescenta Valley not in the cities of Glendale or La Cañada Flintridge. However, both the unincorporated area and the portion of incorporated Glendale north of Montrose are collectively called La Crescenta. It is bordered on the north by the Angeles National Forest, on the east by La Cañada Flintridge, on the south by Glendale, and the northwest by Tujunga. The Foothill Freeway runs through the southern portion of the area.

    The population of La Crescenta-Montrose was 18,532 in the 2000 census, making it one of the smaller towns in Los Angeles County. Some of the streets located throughout neighborhoods in the city are designed in a rose pattern, with the streets laid out in a circular pattern, which gave the city the name Montrose.

    La Canada

    La Cañada Flintridge (pronounced “canyada”) is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States whose population at the 2000 census was 20,318. According to Forbes, as of 2010, La Cañada Flintridge ranks as the 143rd most expensive U.S. city to live in, with a median home price of $1,321,367.

    The city is located in the west end of the San Gabriel Valley, between the San Gabriel Mountains, the Angeles National Forest, and the San Rafael Hills. Located in La Cañada are the Descanso Gardens, formerly belonging to owner of the Los Angeles Daily News, E. Manchester Boddy. The Descanso Enchanted Railroad is a replica of a diesel train that takes visitors around the park. The gardens also play host to a famous Easter egg hunt which takes place on the 1 acre central lawn.

    Also located in La Cañada is NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a federally funded research and development center and NASA field center. It is located on the border of La Cañada and Pasadena. The JPL operates NASA’s Deep Space Network and is currently operating the Mars Exploration Rovers, among other projects.
